Welcome!Welcome to the Carmel Fire Department Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 4444 Website! Local 4444 is a labor organization that represents firefighters, paramedics and officers employed by the Carmel Fire Department with a total of 149 members (145 active, 2 retired active and 2 firefighters that are in the military). The Carmel Fire Department is a paid municipal department comprised of sworn/uniformed personnel (9 of whom are sworn/administrative staff members). In addition, the department has 8 full-time and 2 part-time civilian/administrative staff members. The Department serves a jurisdiction of more than 51 square miles and an estimated City/Township population of more than 64,000.

Our commitment to our craft, along with our Carmel/Clay leaders, ensure that our education/ training programs and the necessary equipment are provided to our professional personnel allowing us to perform fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous material remediation and mitigation, fire prevention and many other important community and departmental services… second to none.

We are dedicated to the protection of life, property and the environment for those citizens who live, work, visit or invest in our community, while simultaneously protecting the health, safety and financial security of all of our members and our members’ families.

  • President's Budget Provides Funding for Fire Service Programs
    February 1, 2010 -- The White House has unveiled the president's proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2011. The proposal includes $305 million for the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant program, $305 million for Assistance to Firefighters (FIRE Act) grants, $28 million for Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) and more than $2 billion to state governments and urban areas to improve their emergency response capabilities.
  • Human Relations Conference Renews Commitment to Inclusivity
    January 28, 2010 -- Attendees at the 2010 Ernest A. “Buddy” Mass Human Relations Conference enjoyed inspirational stories and advice from distinguished presenters in the fields of civil rights, diversity and conflict resolution. More than 300 fire fighters from throughout the United States and Canada came together in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, January 24-27, 2010, to celebrate the progress that has been made toward making the fire service more inclusive and to honestly discuss the long road that still lies ahead.

    January 28, 2010 - As the Ernest A. “Buddy” Mass Human Relations Conference got underway in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, January 24-27, IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger addressed Conference attendees.
